Encouraging environmental awareness and promoting behavior that supports a greener planet recently received a big boost with the announcement of the Earthshot Prize initiative by Prince William. Instead of pessimism about the future of the world and environmental impact of human activities on the planet, the award incentivizes initiatives that will help make a major impact on improving our lives and the planet's future.
It is very exciting to report that one of the Earthshot award focuses on promoting a waste free world - which is very much in line with our initiative! The 2021 winner in this category is the City of Milan. Milan is the first major city to enforce a city-wide food waste policy. Today the city has three Food Waste Hubs, each recovering about 130 tonnes of food per year or 350 kg per day, an estimated 260,000 meals equivalent.
