Fashion/Apparel – Impact on environmental pollution and global warming

As everyone starts going out more often after Covid and thinking about presents for the holidays please consider the impact of your decisions related to fashion and apparel on environmental pollution and global warming.

Did you know that the apparel industry accounts for approximately 10 percent of carbon emissions – second only to oil? 20% of the world’s wastewater is due to fabric dyeing and treatment. And approximately 30% of apparel produced is never sold or used – ending up in landfills.

How can all of us help to reduce the environmental and global warming impact of fashion and apparel?

Buy less and buy better – resist the impulse to buy just because it is cheap. Ask the question – do I really need it?

Buy from environmental conscious brands – buy clothing that is made with recycled or eco-friendly materials.

Donate what you no longer use – If someone else can use what you may not need it will help with lowering demand for new apparel.

We can all make a difference!

Great example of an industry that we never hear about but contributes significantly to the carbon footprint and waste water. While companies need to do more it is up to each one of us to do our share to reduce waste and be more diligent on what we buy and if it is really needed.
